There are a few simple things you'll need to know/have decided on in order to name your star:

1) Choose a relevant name for your star, within reason, this can be anything you like - someone's name for example.
2) Decide if you would like the star to appear in a specific constellation (see the section on Constellations for help on this).
3) Make a note of the type of occasion that you are giving the gift for.
4) Make a note of the date of occasion for which you are giving the gift (this will be used as the official registration date and will appear on several pieces of documentation).
5) Make a note of the full name of the recipient of the gift.
